A sister city organization is a volunteer group of ordinary citizens who, with the support of their local elected officials, form long-term relationships with people and organizations in a city abroad. Each sister city organization is independent and pursues the activities and thematic areas that are important to them and their community including municipal, business, trade, educational and cultural exchanges with their sister city.

About Us

Our organization was incorporated in 1995 and it owes its existence to Joe Daues. He, as well as members of the German Heritage Society, noticed a significant number of our citizenry are of German descent and turned the vision of a Sister City organization to a reality.

Ludwigsburg, Germany

After years of diligent work, the City of St. Charles was formally joined with its German Sister in Ludwigsburg, Germany in two separate ceremonies that were held in each city. On July 4, 1996, a delegation led by Mayor Robert Moeller went to Ludwigsburg to take part in the signing of the Sister City agreement on German soil.

On October 5, 1996, a delegation from Ludwigsburg, led by Lord Mayor Dr. Christof Eichert replicated the signing ceremony in the St. Charles City Hall. Since that time, there have been many benefits received by the St. Charles citizens and students to Ludwigsburg; and, in return by Ludwigsburg students and citizens to St. Charles.

Carndonagh, Inishowen, Ireland

The Inishowen Community, in County Donegal, became a sister city in 2011 largely through the efforts of Sandi Swift who worked toward it at least 5 years. An agreement to twin with St. Charles, Missouri was signed in April, 2011 and the first student exchange occurred in March, 2012 when St. Charles West sent students to Ireland and Carndonagh Community School students came to St. Charles West in October, 2012. The first adult delegation to Ireland took place in July of 2015 and we welcomed their Delegates in St. Charles in May, 2016.

We are excited about expanding our membership to more of its residents. We are hoping with more citizen involvement and more community effort, other sister cities can be found, more student exchanges can take place, there will be more citizen delegations traveling together aboard and a better understanding of the big wide world we live in can be comprehended.
